7 Tips to Design a Good Effective Poster

with 3 comments

Where graphic design is concerned, poster design could well be the most sought after project. A poster is a simple media which communicates vital information about a product or an event. For a designer, it could be an inspiration simply to look at a blank page and to imagine what he could do with it. At times, it can also be a source of frustration if you are not sure on how you can start on it!

52 Creative Church Marketing Designs For Your Inspiration

with 12 comments

Church Marketing is a controversial subject. Some Christians believe that they do not need to market or promote the church, while some does. I don’t want to debate on that. If we look at the broad definition, marketing is the process associated with promotion for sale goods or services (profit oriented) or the process associated with influence of what is believed (non profit oriented).

52 Creative Church Marketing Designs For Your Inspiration

In this perspective, at the end, whatever the terminology that you use, a church (as non profit organization) needs to promote and outreach of what they believe as good news (Jesus is the only savior). World Vision or Red Cross need to promote what they do and how people can help to help others.

Amazingly Unbelievable Pixel Art of eBoy

with 9 comments

This time we’ll be looking at some absolutely amazing example of pixel art: the work of eBoy from Berlin, which is actually a group of artists that collaborate for their extraordinary pixel art projects: Kai Vermehr, Steffen Sauerteig and Svend Smital. We should start by discussing what pixel art represents: it is a special type of digital illustration, because it is  created using a raster graphics software and it actually means painstaking detail-work for every image- it must be edited at pixel level!

Amazingly Unbelievable Pixel Art of eBoy

This type of graphics is usually used in computer and video games, or mobile phone games. However, we are going to look at a group of artists who have managed to create extremely detailed compositions using pixel art and have deservedly broken into the fields of advertising or magazine illustrations as well. The works in this collection are first of all the result of a long and elaborate creation process. As you can see, their compositions can be printed on huge posters and billboards! It’s hard to imagine that all this was actually drawn all pixel level but that is the fact, actually.

Of course, the graphic designers also re-create re-usable pixel objects and take them to build their complex artwork. The artists were fascinated by the digital media and decided to make the most of it and they have surely managed! Their pixel illustrations are true works of art!

38 Pop Art Minimalist Style Film Poster Designs

with 9 comments

This time we will be trying to see some sources of influence and inspiration for minimalist graphics. As we all know, minimalism was originally an art trend from which general design, and graphic design as well, derived. It is more than natural, therefore, for graphic designers to look at some excellent examples o abstract art for inspiration. We mean to prove in this article that art and graphics are not two completely isolated fields and that many inter-relations are possible.

A second point that we want to make is that simply placing a simple-lined image or a shape on a colored background and adding a title in a corner does not make a good minimalist poster. There are some very subtle compositional rules that one should keep in mind when designing such a poster and finding the perfect rapport between the elements is even more difficult because they are just a few. I have compared some film posters to some abstract paintings they might have been influenced by (more or less directly) in order to make a point about the importance of finding compositional balance between graphic elements.

20 QR Code Business Cards Design Inspiration

with 69 comments

This post deals with a type of business cards that is being used more and more and is starting to challenge the traditional design – the QR Code business cards. First of all, we have tho answer the question “What is a QR Code?”. Well, a QR Code is a 2 dimensional bar-code that is easily scanned using any modern mobile phone. This code will then be converted (called “dequrified”) into a piece of (interactive) text and/or link and usually, in case of a link, the user will be redirected to that link instantly. This is the long definition. The short one is: Quick Response Code.

The advantages of having a QR Code on your business cards, or any other promotional material for that matter, is: you will make the print interactive (this is one way to make print interact, another one is augmented reality), you will have the ability to track any incoming visitor from your creation and at the same time you will stand out from the crowd as your business card will have a surprising new element.

It is forecasted that smart-phone sales will surpass PC sales in the year 2011-2012 so you should think of helping your clients find you faster with their mobile devices.

Another Inspiring Miniature Video

with 5 comments

Recently I posted a Miniature Faking Effect video using time-lapse tilt shift photography technique here. Today I found another video and I though I want to share with you.

Here’s an amazing video by Daniel Fiantok of the 2010 Budapest Critical Mass Earth Day ride, shot using a technique know as ‘Tilt-Shift’. The Budapest ride is the largest on the planet, with tens of thousands of riders. This makes Budapest, Hungary look like the coolest place on earth for the bicycle-lover. Not exactly your great-grandmother’s ox-cart. This is best viewed full-screen. Why Is Critical Mass Budapest so huge? It’s mostly flat. Bikes have been popular for generations in Hungarian cities. But to get to 40,000 riders and more, there’s clearly more going on.

Do you know any similar video using miniature effect? Please share in the comment form below. Enjoy!
