Often i’ve found the time I spent looking for good images on free sites is false economy.
By all means try free sites but don’t be afraid to pony up some doe for the perfect image.

Thanks for identifying some new sites for me to try. I have used some of these sites and find it most annoying that they offer free images, but when you have registered you find that most require a payment. The free images offered are usually pretty uninteresting. The compulsory purchase of ‘credits’ that need to be used before an expiry date is a real bind on some sites. I guess there is no easy way to find that ‘right’ image.

Hi Guys,
first of all thanks for listing us. We are free for photographers who contribute and comercial for people who are using photos. I think there is nothing wrong with paying for something that safes you money and time. At Photocase you pay 1 Euro and you get a selection of photos that you will not find at any other site. We don’t have 2 million photos and thats good. Because then you as somebody who is looking for the right photos, don’t has to go through thousands of the same photos over and over again
On the other site we try treat everybody fair. The photographer gets 60% of all revenues and you as a buyer can use the download credits when ever you want. It don’t expire.
Hope you like the photos, which is actually the most important part

Thank you for sharing the list. We would like to add one: acobox.com - it’s designed for bloggers (so maybe not good to designers). In fact it is a hosted image solution to blogging: bloggers can hotlink to acobox for images in their posts. That means they don’t have to do any image job when using image. Certainly, it’s free.

This is such a great resource. I’m going to add an article directory to my site and wanted to include photos that corresponded to the article subjects. These sites will help considerably in that effort. Thanks for a great post.
